Our Speaker tonight is Commodore Bill Fairbairn Royal Navy (Rtd) MBE. Bill will talk about sailing across the Southern Ocean to Antarctica and back in 2019, by what could be mistaken for a voyage undertaken a century and a half ago. He will introduce the region, fauna and the vessel, SV Europa, before showing his film of the expedition. Bill had a 33-year career in the RN, then some years in the defence business before becoming Director of Technical Support for The Marine Society and Sea Cadets’ offshore fleet for 7½ years. He played a pivotal role in the design, build and delivery of their new Tall Ship, the Sail Training Brig TS Royalist – named and commissioned by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, in 2015.
